The annual Kecksburg UFO Festival will be held July 21-23 at the Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department, 5128 Water St., Mt. Pleasant. The three-day festival will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, with half-price food night at the VFD kitchen, featuring its legendary hamburgers and fresh-cut fries. Music will be provided from 6-9 p.m. by Corn Liquor Saints inside the social hall, where UFO, Bigfoot and paranormal researchers will be set up, along with a large craft show.
Saturday’s festival hours are noon to 11 p.m., with the annual parade set for 2 p.m. The popular Bed Race is set for 4 p.m., and fireworks will light the sky at 10 p.m. Along with the researchers and craft show inside the social hall, numerous vendors, a blacksmith and a wood carver will be stationed outside. Food vendors also will be outside the social hall.
The festival concludes Sunday, with hours set from noon to 5 p.m. The hot dog eating contest will take place at 12:30 p.m., with the annual UFO-Paranormal Conference in the EMS building from 1-5 p.m. A donation of $1 at the door is appreciated.
The conference will feature several speakers, including Stan Gordon, who has been recording UFO sightings, Bigfoot encounters and other mysteries in Pennsylvania since 1959. Gordon has led teams of scientists, engineers and researchers in investigating mysterious occurrences throughout the commonwealth and is the primary investigator of the 1965 UFO incident near Kecksburg.
Gordon is the author of four books and has been interviewed for national and international radio and television programs. During the conference, he will discuss the reported UFO, Bigfoot and cryptid sightings that have occurred in recent months and years in Westmoreland County and the Pittsburgh area.
