The title of St. Vincent‘s seventh album, ‘All Born Screaming’, is intended to be life-affirming on several levels. “We’re all born in some ways against our will,” the artist Annie Clark says with a laugh. “But at the same time, if you’re born screaming, it’s a great sign – it’s a sign you’re alive. We’re all born in protest, so screaming is what it means to be alive.” Out today, the thrillingly visceral LP slinks between rampaging industrial rock (‘Broken Man’, which features Dave Grohl on drums) and marauding muscular funk (‘Big Time Nothing’). It also includes ‘Sweetest Fruit’, a tender tribute to late…

Florence Pugh and Cillian Murphy were left naked after a surprise tech hitch. The Oppenheimer actors found themselves in a rather compromising position halfway through shooting a sex scene for their Oscar-nominated film. “In the middle of our sex scene, the camera broke. No one knows this, but it did,” Florence revealed during an Oppenheimer discussion panel. “Our camera broke when we were both naked, and it was not ideal timing.” Because the only other camera usable for that particular scene was also being repaired at the time, the actors were forced to wait, naked, until a technician was able…

Initially, in the wake of the Palestinian militant group Hamas’ attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, many Jewish members of the industry said they felt disillusioned about their peers’ silence. But in recent weeks, those who have been most outspoken in support of Palestinians and against Israel’s military actions in Gaza have begun to be met with professional blowback. After CAA agent Maha Dakhil sparked controversy with a series of posts on Instagram, including one that said:…

Louise Glück, the former US Poet Laureate and 2020 Nobel Prize awardee whose deceptively simple poems revealed visceral truths about love, loss and survival, has died at 80. “Louise Glück’s poetry gives voice to our untrusting but unstillable need for knowledge and connection in an often unreliable world. Her work is immortal,” Jonathan Galassi, Glück’s editor and chairman at the publishing house Farrar, Straus and Giroux, said in a statement provided to CNN Friday afternoon. Glück was one of the most-awarded American poets of her time, earning the 1993 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for her collection “The Wild Iris,” the National Book Award for Poetry in 2014 for…
