Calista Flockhart admits she was left ‘depressed’ over ‘body shaming’ chatter. The actress says her years working on law comedy-drama Ally McBeal were marred by ongoing media speculation about her weight and size. “I don’t think that would ever happen today,” Calista told The New York Times. “They call it body-shaming now. I haven’t thought about it in a long time, but it’s really not OK to accuse someone of having a disease that a lot of people struggle with.” Calista, 59, said she was frequently worried the talk about her health would be enough to ruin her chances of…
Newspapers and politicians discuss general’s skin tone, saying actor’s casting in the role created ‘a historical error’ A decision to cast black actor Denzel Washington as the ancient Carthaginian general Hannibal in an upcoming Netflix film has sparked a small but heated debate in Tunisia, the military general’s birthplace. After a similar controversy on race and representation in nearby Egypt over a Netflix docudrama about Cleopatra, Tunisian newspapers, social media and even the halls of parliament have seen discussion on the skin tone of the long-dead leader. French-language Tunisian news outlet La Presse published an article saying the casting created “a historical error”, while on social…

Let’s face it, people generally don’t come to Godzilla-related projects for the actors and drama, which is basically the leap that “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” asks viewers to make. Stretched into a multi-generational Apple TV+ series, the show is as much a Titan-ic soap opera as a monster mash, proving mildly watchable but without enough of the city-leveling antics for which the big guy is known. The most intriguing aspect of “Legacy of Monsters,” as it attempts to build a decades-spanning mythology, involves the character of Lee Shaw, played in the present day by Kurt Russell and in the 1950s…
