According to the American entertainment publication Deadline, Paramount Pictures is remaking Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 masterpiece Vertigo, with Robert Downey Jr. eyeing the lead part.
According to the rumor, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who recently agreed to create a Star Wars movie, will pen the script. Together with Team Downey’s Robert and Susan Downey, John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment will create the movie.
According to reports, the Hitchcock Estate granted Paramount the go-ahead to remake the original psychological thriller.
James Stewart portrayed a former police detective who had to resign due to a trauma sustained in the line of duty that left him with a fear of heights in the first movie. To track his wife Madeleine (Kim Novak), who is acting erratically, Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore) hires the ex-cop as a private investigator. A game of seduction and treachery then ensues.
Since the release of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, followed by 2020’s Dolittle, Downey has maintained a low presence as an actor. His next appearance will be with Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s historical drama Oppenheimer after producing and appearing in the documentary Sr. about his father. The Sympathiser, an A24 and HBO post-Vietnam War drama series produced by Park Chan-wook, also stars the Iron Man actor.
